| Clay Diary: Summer Solstice Celebration
The Summer Solstice
is the first day of summer. It is the day with the longest period of
sunlight and the shortest night. The date of the Summer Solstice usually
falls near June 21 in the Northern hemisphere or December 21 in the Southern
hemisphere. Most religions have holy days which are in some way linked to
the Summer Solstice. Every year my family celebrates the Summer Solstice by decorating a wooden tree with flowers and leaves collected from a garden. After we share a picnic dinner together, we sing songs around a campfire and roast marshmallows. It is a very simple celebration and one of my favorite family gatherings.
